Pixel Skin Studio is a free editor for making your own Minecraft skins. Everything happens in your browser, and you do not need an account.

Painting

You can paint in two places, and they always match. Drag on the 3D character to paint on the model. Drag on the texture sheet to paint on the flat skin file. Drag the background of the 3D view to turn the character, and pinch or use the mouse wheel to zoom.

On a phone or in portrait on a tablet, one view shows at a time. Use the 3D / Sheet switch at the top to change views.

Tools, layers and mirror

Skins have two layers. Base is the body itself. Overlay sits on top of it, for things like hats, jackets and sleeves. Choose which one you are painting on with Paint on. You can hide the overlay with Show overlay, and hide whole parts (head, body, arms, legs) with Show parts.

Mirror paints the matching spot on the other side of the character at the same time. Arms can be Classic (4 pixels wide) or Slim (3 pixels wide). Start blank clears the canvas, and Load sample brings back the sample skin. Undo and Redo step through your strokes.

Keyboard shortcuts

Touch and Apple Pencil

With a finger you can paint, and two fingers pinch to zoom and drag to turn the model or move the sheet. The sheet zooms up to 8 times.

On an iPad with Apple Pencil, once the Pencil touches the screen, only the Pencil paints. A finger then turns the model, and two fingers zoom. A resting palm never paints.

Open PNG and Save PNG

Save PNG downloads your skin as a 64 by 64 PNG file named after your skin. Open PNG loads a skin from a PNG file on your device. It reads current 64 by 64 skins and older 64 by 32 skins, which are converted for you. The files never leave your device.

To use a saved skin in Minecraft, open the Minecraft Launcher, go to the Skins page, add a new skin and choose your PNG file. Pick Classic or Slim to match the arms you chose here.

Add it to your iPad Home Screen

In Safari on an iPad, tap the Share button and choose Add to Home Screen. The editor then opens full screen with its own icon, and it keeps working with Wi-Fi off after the first visit.

Where your work is kept

Your skin is saved automatically, but only in this browser on this device. It is not sent anywhere, and a different browser or device will not see it. If your browser clears site data, the saved skin goes with it, so use Save PNG to keep a copy you care about. The same goes for the offline copy of the editor.

Safari and the Home Screen app do not share the saved skin. Each keeps its own, so a skin you paint in Safari does not appear in the Home Screen app. To remove what the Home Screen app saved, delete its icon. The first-visit hint is the short line under the 3D view that tells you how to paint. It hides after your first stroke and does not come back.
